The Class A facility serving as the home in Tampa Bay for Telemundo programming has a new News Director.
Taking the role at WRMD-49 is Meredith Veloz has been named News Director. She reports to Miguelangel Lopez, Regional VP of News & Content for the Telemundo-owned stations serving Orlando, Tampa, and Southwest Florida.
Veloz will now oversee the news content and operations for “Telemundo 49” in the Tampa-St. Petersburg market and will lead a team of producers, reporters, and anchors covering the Tampa Bay region across the station’s TV, streaming and digital platforms. She will also oversee the Telemundo Fort Myers-Naples news team, at low-power WWDT-43.
Veloz is a veteran journalist with more than 16 years of experience who joins Telemundo 49 from the NBC and Telemundo-owned stations in Philadelphia, WCAU-10 and NBC 10 and WWSI-TV, where she served as Duopoly Executive Producer, overseeing editorial for both stations.
“Meredith is passionate about local news, has extensive experience in bilingual media, and has successfully led news editorial in several major-market stations,” said Lopez. “She is an ideal person to lead our newsroom and we are pleased to welcome her to our talented and dedicated team serving the Tampa Bay and the Southwest Florida area.”
Previously, Veloz held production positions for Univision and Maria Elvira Live!, a show hosted by current U.S. Rep. María Elvira Salazar.
Veloz is a graduate of American University and holds a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism and Political Science.
