‘Telemundo Utah’ Names A New News Director

KULX-TV, part of NBCUniversal Local’s Telemundo Station Group, has appointed a new News Director for the Telemundo-owned station based in Salt Lake City.

Amy Alvarez starts her new role on May 6. She’s presently the Executive Producer for KVDA-60 in San Antonio, a Telemundo O&O she’s called home since 2019.

Alvarez will report to Telemundo Utah and KDEN-TV in Denver President/GM Tatiana Argüello.

In her new role, Alvarez will oversee all aspects of news editorial, production and operations for Telemundo Utah. She will lead the station’s team of cross-platform news producers, reporters and anchors.

“Amy is a dedicated and passionate news professional who has significant experience producing and leading local coverage for Spanish-language newsrooms in large Hispanic media markets, including roles with several Telemundo-owned stations,” said Argüello. “We are excited she’s joining our talented and hard-working news team to help us further our already impactful position in our communities and super-serve Spanish-speaking audiences across Utah.”

Overall, Alvarez has more than 20 years of experience in news production and leadership, including more than 18 years in newsroom positions with three Telemundo-owned stations in Texas. Alvarez joined KVDA as a news producer in 2018 before being promoted the following year.

Prior to San Antonio, Alvarez spent two years as executive news producer for TEGNA’s KHOU-11 in Houston. She is a native of Caracas and worked in Venezuela at Televen.
